AttachmentsATTACHMENTS is a quartet inspired by the complexity of human connections and the constant influences we have on one another. With the ingenious costume design by Zachary Alexander, Lindsey L. Miller was able to create an innovative work exploring interpersonal connections and the exchange of energy. The costumes connect by zippers to one another and parts transfer from one dancer to another symbolically showing the influence humans have on one another and the resulting transference of energy. Choreographed to original music by Anthony Carrera, the work breaks down one on one relationships as well as their connection to the group as a whole.

The distance between two pointsTHE DISTANCE BETWEEN TWO POINTS is a duet performed with one dancer projected virtually and one dancer live. Two films were created to enable both dancers to be able to perform the work live with their virtual counterpart regardless difference of the space and time between the two performers. One piece of choreography creates two different media/dance performance experiences. Inspired by the way technology enables long distance human connections to thrive, this work shows the progression of a movement phrase being developed via video exchange between a NYC-based and a Toronto-based artist and the duet that was created as a result of the collaboration.

Body talkBODY TALK is an all female cast of dancers exploring the struggles of body image and the journey to self-empowerment. Through a collaborative process, choreographer Lindsey L. Miller gave the dancers of LLMoves an environment to share their own experiences and insecurities of their own body image issues through open conversation and improvisation explorations. These acts of expression served as the inspiration to create the movement vocabulary for the work. Media bombards us with an “ideal” definition of beauty, and our peers often reinforce these thoughts. We explored the importance of rejecting and overcoming these constraining thoughts not only as individuals, but also as a community of women striving to build more inclusive, compassionate mindsets.

comanche moonCOMANCHE MOON was a commissioned work for Illinois State Wesleyan’s Faculty Choreographed Dance Concert within their Theatre Department. The theme of the concert was the seven deadly sins. One of the themes I was selected to choreograph on was wrath, and I was inspired to choreograph a work inspired by the wrath the Native Americans felt when being pushed out of their own land. Their strength and pride helped inspire a wrath-based piece of choreography that was much more focused on the justification of their power rather than the sinfulness of that emotion. The wrath seen from the Comanche tribe from the Great Plains specifically moved me to choreograph a scene of the foreboding tribal energy before a ritualistic raid that happened on many full moons. These dreaded full moons eventually became to be known as even to this day in the area as the Comanche Moon.
Premiere May 2013 - Choreography by Lindsey L. Miller - Costumes by Zachary Alexander - Music by Native American Drums; Evelyn Glennie/David Motion (length 6:25) |
